    Yea, Kakashi dies by using the Mangekyou Sharingan to take out a missle that was launched by one of the 6 Pains… He was trapped and was basically out of chakra when he did it so it finished him off. He did it to protect Choji so that Choji could take some vital info to the 5th. You get to see Kakashi’s dad too when he dies. Jariya is already dead from fighting the 6 Pains by himself after he went into Sage mode. He had his throat caved in. Naruto is going through training to become a sage like Jariya did and gain major charka without the 9 tail’s help. And yes, they’ve made it official that Naruto is the 4th Hokage’s son. His mom was a red head(whom he gets his attitude from.) You find this out before Jariya goes to fight Pain. Oh yea, and Itachi was killed by Sauske… great fight!

Only one problem, Is it me or the producers are sooo fucking cheap they make so much money with Naruto and dont spend shit on improving graphic production. Even dragonball Z had better graphics and that was like 15 years ago! They need to spend more money and start using advanced computer technolgy… please!!!      The manga is pretty sick to read. You’ll see the other Akatsuki members, as well as their crazy abilties.

     The quality is great for the show. Doesn’t need DBZ graphics to make it better, it’s already beast.

     I just want to see the new technique in action, it’s so brutal on everybody.

     Sharigan_Ras3nGan@… as far as the animation goes, watch dbz or gt and you’ll notice a difference… they use a different type of animation during the bigger battles for better frame rate and smoother graphics. Personally I luv it. I wish they would use it more often, but it takes more man-power to do so when drawing the anime spilt-second frame rate… In all acuallity, the Naruto series uses better frame rates than most all other main stream animes when it comes to the bigger battles. Watch the Sauske vs Orochimaru, Hokage Battle Royale, and Naruto vs Sauske battles to see the difference from their ordinary battles or filler episodes…

     Welcome my friends, my enemies, and those whom I do not yet know.

     Let’s sit and talk for a while, you and me. We haven’t talked in some time. Let’s explore the past a little, and chat about the present and future.

     Naruto has been around for a very long time now. When I started downloading fansubs in early 2003, Naruto was already past its 20th episode. I used to watch TW’s releases. At that time, TW’s releases got about 8,000 downloads per episode in a week, and TW released 5 weeks after airing in Japan.

     By May 2004, with TW languishing, AONE had primarily taken over Naruto. Naruto’s popularity had soared. AONE was releasing a week after airing in Japan, a schedule they would keep for a long time. They were averaging 60,000 downloads per episode after a week by episode 85.

     When Anime-Heaven (the precursor to Dattebayo) started 6 weeks later, it got 60,000 downloads on its first release, a low-quality speed sub. At that time, because AONE was releasing a week after airing, there was room for other people to try to do it faster.

     It was July 16, 2004 when the leader of Anime-Heaven approached me about typesetting their Naruto. I slapped some polish on their release, edited it, gave it karaoke and a nice looking font, and the era of higher quality speed subs began. Within a couple weeks, I had recruited a number of my friends to help with the show, all of whom still work on DB’s staff. During the 12 weeks that A-H subbed Naruto, popularity grew from 60,000 to 120,000 downloads per episode after a week. We noticed that the earlier we released, the more downloads we’d get.

     Now let me step back for a moment. There’s lots of big numbers floating around up there. Part of it was about the number of people who were seeing it, but mostly we loved the show. We loved feeling like we were a part of the action, and we loved putting our own spin on things. The numbers showed us how much people liked what we were doing. It told us we were doing it right. We also brought on our Portuguese and French versions, both of which have developed over the years into wonderful groups in their own communities.

     Another year goes by. It’s now 2005. We subtitled Tsubasa Chronicles with Live-Evil, and that started a great long term relationship between the two groups. Naruto was up to 200 episodes, and got 200,000 downloads per episode after a week. We started subbing Bleach at the suggestion of someone at the fansubbing panel at Otakon. (I wonder if you, the person who asked that, are out there. )

     It was somewhere around here, in the midst of the filler, that I stopped liking Naruto as a show. I stopped watching it. I still did some timing, and the karaoke. As the filler wore on, some of those karaoke got pretty lame. I apologize for that.

     And you didn’t like the filler either. Download numbers dropped. In October 2006, Naruto was getting about 175,000 downloads in the week after release. The staff hated subbing it.

     Our own quality dropped because none of the staff really liked the show when Naruto was peeing on people. We kept doing it because fans kept telling us they liked it. They’d tell us how it brought their families together, how it guided them through rough times, how it was something to look forward to in their otherwise dreary lives. Every week on the same day, they had Naruto.

     I know that sounds really corny, but that made a huge impact on me, as I think it did on the entire staff. It’s what kept me working on the show for two years after I stopped watching it.

     A year later, in October 2007, Dattebayo left behind its home at yhbt.mine.nu and moved over to dattebayo.com. Shippuuden was in full swing. People had forgotten about the fillers, and Shippuuden was getting a mind boggling 450,000 downloads within a week of release. It was around this time we released our most popular episode.

     I hardly ever go to the Dattebayo website nowadays. I don’t really have much involvement with Naruto or Bleach on a week-to-week basis. I still design the karaoke, but I honestly didn’t even know that Bleach and Naruto had changed air dates a while back. Zarharva has taken over the role of Naruto’s overall management, along with Bleach, and done a truly excellent job.

     But there was one thing I’d still go to the website for, and that is to check to see how many downloads Shippuuden 20 had gotten.

     For some reason I can’t really understand, it is our most popular release. It started off normal enough, 384,000 after 7 days. Then about 500,000 after 20, 705,000 after 87, but after that, it started to pick up. As of the time this writing, it is 489 days old and has 976,405 downloads.

     I’d always check because I wanted to make sure I didn’t miss the million mark. It’s just an arbitrary number, really, but I liked the idea that one in every 6000-something members of the human race will have seen it.

     Think about that for a minute. There are 15,000 people in my town, and that means that, statistically, there’s a significant chance that someone in my town, whom I have never met, has downloaded one of our releases, based on our download numbers alone. Never mind all the illegal DVDs, YouTube views, and people sharing it with each other. It means that we’ve affected the lives of a million people, probably more, and hopefully made them a little better. There aren’t many groups of people who can say they’ve done that.

     Sadly though, I don’t think it will be on our website long enough to hit that mark.

     When I spoke at Otakon this past summer, I talked about the steps that anime companies needed to take to compete with fansubs. I said how it would have to be available just as fast, and free.

     And though I don’t dare take credit for it, that’s now happening. Viz, the US licensor of Naruto, will be offering streaming viewing of Naruto for free a week after it airs in Japan.

     For some small fee, you can pay to see it the same day it airs in Japan over at Crunchyroll starting in January.

     Why did Dattebayo start subbing Naruto? Because we loved it, and because we felt the fans deserved to see a good-quality subtitled version promptly after the Japanese release. And come January, you can do that legally for a small fee, or for free after a week. Viz’s subtitling work on the show is respectable, though a little stiff. And sure, it’s not the same having a nice AVI that you can watch on your TV or whatnot, but its going to have to do.

     If we continued to sub Naruto, it would be a direct affront to Viz, a company that, for the most part, has been pretty amazing to us as fans. Sure, you can say that their dub sucks, or whatever other axe you have to grind, but never once did they ask us to stop subbing Naruto or Bleach, something that is well within their rights and power to do. We have episodes that have gotten almost a million downloads. We’ve had episodes that have gotten more downloads in their their first 24 hours than they had viewers when they showed on Cartoon Network.

     I’ve often asked people I know in the anime industry why they think Viz never asked us to stop, and they say, “Well, Viz isn’t really into the whole C&D thing, they just don’t do that.” That may be true to some extent, but I’ve always liked to think it was because we had a silent symbiotic relationship. We only did things that helped the popularity of their shows, and they turned a blind eye to us.

     But like any symbiosis, you have to know when its time to move on. That time has come. Viz and Crunchyroll have gotten their acts together and are trying something new, with one of the most popular shows in anime today. I, and the rest of the staff, know that if we continue to subtitle it, they will have to ask us to stop. That’s something they probably don’t want to have to do, because it will most likely make all of you very mad at them. That’s something they really don’t deserve.

     While I wish some things about the situation were different, a lot of things are being done right. Who knows, perhaps even more will be done right in the future.

     So with that being said, Dattebayo will be dropping Naruto Shippuuden permanently on 1/15/2009, which, interestingly enough, will probably be around episode 91. This is not a joke or a troll. The staff voted in favor of it, and I’ve notified the international groups.

     I know the FAQ says that if we dropped Naruto for real, there would be no announcement, but I don’t think that would be very cool. You deserve more, and we deserve more.

     For now nothing changes. Enjoy what time we have left with Naruto. Those of us on staff certainly will. Download the episodes now. Though I’m not planning to remove the torrents yet, I’m not sure exactly when it will happen.

     We’ll still keep subbing Bleach, and perhaps the extra time will allow us to get some other work done (though that is unlikely).

     I think the thing I will miss most about Naruto will be designing the karaoke. Even though I don’t do much work on our main shows anymore, I still have had a hand in every one we’ve ever done. Every six months, I have to come up with a new karaoke style. I usually lament it, but when I download it after release day and see it encoded, I remember why I love fansubbing so much – because its just really cool, and I can make it look how I wanted.

     As many of you have noticed, there has been a slight delay in the release of Naruto Shippuuden this week. We would like to take this opportunity to not apologize for the delay. Instead, we would like to wave our middle fingers at all the people who were nice enough to take time out of their busy lives (which we assume consist of living in their mothers’ basements, playing WoW, and masturbating to hentai) to write us, call us assholes or bitches, tell us we suck, and let us know that we deserve to rot in hell because we are taking “4eva” to sub the episode.      Attention Dattebayo fans,

     Effective immediately, we are terminating our subtitling efforts on the “Naruto Shippuuden”. This decision is not up for discussion and not negotiable. You can guess why this is happening, and no, there is nothing you can do about it as there will always be assholes who want to piss in the pot so to speak.

     It was a difficult decision, but it had to be done.

     It’s been a fun 4 years!

     Update

     We’d like to address a few questions and comments we’ve received regarding the above announcement.

     Help, I’m confused! Despite the lengthy explanations linked above, I still don’t understand why you’re dropping Naruto Shippuuden.

     Anyone who follows the anime industry knows that in bringing fansubs a wider audience, streaming sites time have made it increasingly difficult for copyright holders to ignore the existence of the groups that subtitle and distribute their property. At some point, they will stop trying to go after the sites themselves and simply cut off the problem at the source (i.e., us). To paraphrase one of the few intelligent comments we’ve received in regards to this matter, people who are uploading our work to streaming sites are basically putting us in harm’s way without our permission. Some people have commented that uploaders are “helping” us by making us more popular, but this is the kind of “help” we don’t need.

     In addition, as we have stated repeatedly, we do not approve of others taking our work and using it to make a profit. Many streaming sites not only solicit donations but fill their pages with ads, even though for the most part they are simply linking to videos that were uploaded at no cost (to YouTube or other sites) and are using free hosting services. This means that they are essentially scamming viewers into thinking that donations are required to keep their “free” service running, even though they are already making a profit off advertisements. We do not spend hours of our lives subbing episodes for free so that other people can make a profit off our videos with a few clicks of their mouse.

     This isn’t fair! By dropping Naruto Shippuuden for the actions of a few, you’re punishing the majority of people who follow your rules.

     While this may be true, the fact is that the creators and licensees of Naruto Shippuuden are going to care even less than we do. If DB gets shut down permanently, it won’t matter that only a few people were uploading our videos to streaming sites. There will be no more DB subbed shows, for anyone, ever again.

     What about your other shows, will you be dropping those too?

     If we have to.

     Can you guys suggest another site for downloading Naruto Shippuuden?

     Unfortunately, DB was the only English group that was up to date with Naruto Shippuuden releases. At this time, there are no other options.

     How about you just stream the shows yourselves and/or start charging people to use your site?

     It defies logic that we will somehow solve the problem by doing the exact things that we do not want done. Anyone writing in with either of these suggestions will be banned.

     How to report user in youtube who upload naruto videos. I tried looking but couldnt find it. Thanks.

     Chill on the Caps.

     1) You will be able to still watch it for free but it will be a week after airing in japan (unless you pay a fee to see it the day of).

     2) You dont have to wait 91 weeks for them to catch up. They will actually have all the old episodes up starting the 2nd i believe.

     3) Why would DB continue to sub something that’s being subbed legally and for free. although it may be edited somewhat for vulgar language it wont be that different. It’s also subbed not dubbed so there wont be different voices as a previous poster was worried.

     Feedback Forum, Special Naruto Dropped Edition

     Welcome this is special edition of Dattebayo’s feedback forum, which is dedicated to answering your burning questions regarding our announcement that we will be dropping Naruto as of 1/15/09. Thank you to the thousands of people who have sent letters of support in the last week. The staff is still reading through all the messages we have received, but you can be assured that each and every one of them will be read.

     First of all, we’d like to clarify a few things. TV Tokyo has announced that it will begin streaming English subtitled Naruto Shippuuden via Crunchyroll approximately one hour after it airs in Japan (that would be sometime early Thursday morning EST) on January 8, 2009. This service will not be free, but will most likely require a subscription or a small fee per episode. According to ANN, this service will be “worldwide”. After a week, the episodes will be available for free. (Read more here.)

     Viz Media has also announced that it will begin streaming free English subtitled Naruto Shippuuden episodes a week after airing via their official site Naruto.com as well as the services Joost and Hulu. This will begin January 15, 2009. These episodes will be free. In order to get viewers “caught up” to the current episode, Viz will be releasing 8 Naruto Shippuuden episodes, starting with episode 1, every Friday starting on January 2, 2009 via the aforementioned services.      This answers 85% of the questions we’ve received over the last week, including “Will the episodes be subbed or dubbed?”, “Why aren’t you going to keep subbing so we don’t have to wait 91 weeks for the official subs to catch up?”, “Will the subs be available outside the US?”, and “Could you give us more information about what sites we will be able to view these official versions at?”

     Now that that’s out of the way, here are answers to some of the other questions/comments we’ve received in the last week.

     Q. This latest announcement had better be a troll.

     A. You are forgiven for doubting us considering our checkered past. However this is not another troll. We will no longer be subbing Naruto Shippuuden as of 1/15/09.

     Q. I have a really lame reason why you shouldn’t drop Shippuuden. (Such as: You owe it to the fans to keep going/You have no right to drop it/I’m too cheap to pay for subs/I’m afraid that it won’t be available where I live/I think you should totally risk getting the pants sued off of you so that I can save $2). Will you change your mind?

     A. No. We like our pants, and our decision is final. DB will stop subbing Naruto when Viz beings streaming it in January 2009.

     Q. Will you still be subbing the Naruto movies?

     A. We’re not sure. It depends on how Viz decides to handle the release of the movies in the US, how the staff feels about it, and on a couple of other factors. You’ll know in April by whether or not we release it. Until then, please stop asking. Every second we spend reading your question takes away from time we could be spending reading mail we care about.

     Q. Is this really the end of Naruto for Dattebayo? Please tell me the truth.

     A. OK, here’s the truth: This is really the end of Naruto for Dattebayo. We’re really dropping it on January 15, 2009.

     Q. What about Bleach? Are you dropping that too?

     A. If you’d actually read our press release, you’d know the answer is no. Sadly, if you’re the kind of person who would ask this question, you’re probably not reading this either. However, if TV Tokyo and/or Viz begin releasing Bleach the way they are planning to do with Shippuuden, we will most likely drop it as well.

     Q. Is this for real? I mean are you really going to stop?

     A. Yes, it is for real this time. We are really going to stop subbing Naruto Shippuuden on 1/15/09.

     Q. If you’re not going to be releasing Naruto anymore, someone else will, right? Will you link us to their site?

     A. You obviously missed the point. We are dropping it because there will be fast, official, legal versions available. We are not going to recommend another fansubbing group to you, because one of the main reason we are ceasing to sub the show is to support the official versions.

     Q. Are you really going to drop Naruto Shippuuden?

     A. Yes, we really, honestly, truly are dropping Naruto Shippuuden in January 2009.

     Q. Now that you are dropping Naruto Shippuuden, are you going to change your name?

     A. No. Our name is our name. We aren’t going to change it.

     Q. I know your announcement is a troll because of some stupid reason (Such as: It’s your 100th PR/The date coincides too neatly with the date Viz is starting their service/There was a typo in the PR/The date 1/15/09 doesn’t exist).

     A. It’s cute that people are so busy looking for the clues that are meant to tell you this is a troll. The only problem is, it isn’t. The 100th PR thing is just a coincidence, albeit a pretty neat one. The date we are dropping Naruto and the date that Viz’s streaming starts is the same for an obvious reason. And to the person who believes the date “doesn’t exist”: that’s how we write dates here in the US. But thanks for playing.

     Now for some special bonus material. People often ask us about the positive feedback we receive. To satisfy them, here is a small sample of the overwhelming number of positive messages we have received in the last week.      Fred, if naruto would go nine tails while fighting sasuke, it wouldnt be naruto vs sasuke anymore, it would be sasuke vs kyuubi, and i doubt that naruto would ever do that…

     i realy think that kakashi will be back to life, because whenever somebody died, we didnt get to see where whoever died went after death… but with kakashi we know what he see and where his mind or whatever is… i think that sakumo will tell him how to fight against rinnegan

     think about it… when jiraiya was dying he said something about the name of his book but that was while he was still barely alive, then he died and that was it, we didnt saw him anymore… with itachi, he just dropped dead and that was it… but with kakashi, while he was dying he said “obito, rin…” or something, then he died and went to that place where he met sakumo (his father)… my point is: why would they show us his meeting with sakumo if he isnt going to be back to life?? and sakumo, as the great ninja genious should know a thing or two about rinnegan

     FábioAnselmo: It is similar to this Jutsu but not the same as the 4th Hokage’s used. Because when someone uses that justsu, dies after completing it in the end. They sacrifice their own souls by using that jutsu. And Pain would be dead now if he used it, i wish it was the same jutsu! .:D

     [just so you know ]When Naruto premires on cartoon network it will be on adult swim. I am right if you go to other naruto websites it says it right there. Plus this little boy died from trying to copy a naruto move. It was gara ’s sand coffin. Can you belive it. They could have done any other move but the sand coffin. It spells death right inside of the word. so because of this they are actually thinking of canceling Naruto. I think they are all crazy if they cancel naruto.
